Lil’ Angel Addie

Addie’s been making the rounds on some related blogs, but this will be her first appearance here ๐Ÿ˜‰ I confess I didn’t take this picture (you’d probably notice it in color uncropped in one of Mar’s first posts on her blog.) But I was tinkering with a technique I was learning in Photoshop and needed something deserving of a soft touch– little Addie is perfect. I hope you enjoy this slightly modified version– gosh she looks so cozy and soft, makes me want to just curl up in bed.  (I guess it’s about time to go take some pictures if this adorable little girl…)

For those who have read sloanie.com for any length of time, you may have read one or two rants about women cooing and fawning over newborns quite annoyingly in the office whenever someone brought one in. But a few things make the addition of this little baby girl different than those experiences.

Firstly, she’s related to me ๐Ÿ˜› Secondly, my mindset is a bit different at this point in my life. And thirdly, well, Marianne doesn’t bring Addie into the office and roll her right next to my cubicle so all the women flock there, hehehe.

On a more serious note… it’s difficult to describe with words the perspective holding that little newborn baby gives me. I feel a sense of the sacredness and fragility of human life. There’s something sweet and peaceful about her when you hold her. I have a sense of wonder about how pure and innocent this little child is. It’s humbling to know where this child has just come from and how brave and how special she must be to come to this world at this time in history. I also sense, just a bit, of what a sacred responsibility it is to be entrusted with such a little one to love, protect, and raise. I’ve no doubt that Marianne and Jesse are wonderful parents and will fulfill that calling well.

She’s just over a month old now. Congratulations, Marianne and Jesse, and welcome little Addie ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Good description, Mike. She really is so precious, and it feels somewhat overwhelming to be entrusted with a new human life. I’d say she’s not only brave to come into this world at this time, but to let me be her mom. Hehe.

P.s. Now I know not to bring the baby by your desk, ever. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. When Rebecca was born, I wanted to let everyone hold her because…well…she’s a little gift. All babies are. And I wanted to share her. You can’t have a bad thought or feel stressed when holding such a precious creature who’s straight from heaven. You can just imagine where they were and what they were thinking and who they were with, just days before.

Of course I didn’t let EVERYONE hold her right away (her loving father had very strong opinions about confusing the baby’s senses with other “people” smells. As well as germs…and all that) But when he wasn’t looking…well…let’s just say, I shared the gift ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m rambling, so ANYway…Precious Addie! She’s amazing. Beautiful photo, and I love what you did with it, Mike. You are such a wonderful uncle!
