Last night around 9:30 pm an enjoyable Unreal Tournament 2004 fest was interrupted by my sister’s sobbing announcement that the dogs were gone, that they had run away.
So everyone went out to their cars and started combing the surrounding neighborhoods for the dogs.
These dogs just go nutty whenever they even SEE their leash, let alone when you put it on. Don’t let those lazy pictures above fool you, they turn into wild savage beasts. I guess Mel in a panic let go of their leashes because the other dog, Gus (a little white geriatric mutt) got out and she was worried about him getting away. Well, stinker one and stinker two (otherwise known as Indy and Bo) used the diversion and bolted.
After a couple fruitless hours of searching surrounding neighborhoods, parks, etc., Dad calls the police who tell him someone had called having found a couple of dogs, and that they had wanted to know how to get in touch with animal control and/or the humane society, both of which were closed at that hour (about 11:30).
I guess this morning when Dad called animal control they had the guy who found the 2 dogs on the other line– so they gave him our number and he called us directly, after which Dad went and picked up the dogs. We did indeed get lucky… these dogs could have easily been history.
They did what we hoped they hadn’t– they crossed 2 fairly busy streets (Highland Dr. / 2000 E. and 9400 south) to get to this guy’s house, which was probably a 5-10 minute drive northwest of where we live. Apparently a dog lover himself, he couldn’t stand the idea of a couple lab puppies wandering loose (they had their leashes on and everything– he figured maybe they’d been abandoned) and took them into his house for the night.
Lucky, diki pooches. Needless to say, everyone was sad when they were gone and now feel much better to have them back.

Oh…my goodness! Those dang dogs. Adorable little monsters, aren’t they? That’s just plain crazy.
I am SO thankful that they’re back. I know they’ve been found, but I’m still crying here…
And I’m really sorry I ruined your game!
meh, it’s just a video game. No big deal– I’m just glad they’re back too 🙂
Man, that’s a scary deal. Glad you found them, though.
Hey! That’s great that you found them! What a relief! I can’t believe they went all the way across highland and 94th, that was the last place I would have thought to look, haha. Oh well, at least they’re back.
yeah! I bet they were at 88th or 86th south and about 1800 east. Crazy dogs!
I’m glad the dogs are back.
hehe. glad your dogs are home safely. i can’t help getting extremely confused with all of the directional street names in Utah. in NC we have roads like, Quail Lane, Elk Drive, Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, etc. and they are never straight. You may be on hwy 421 N, but travelling west for most of the trip. in addition, we never give directions in terms of N,E,W,S, we say things like, go about 1/2 mile down Quail Lane till you get to the burger king, and take a right onto Elk. At the 3rd stoplight, turn right onto Earnhardt Blvd. I couldn’t tell you right now which way is North. when i visited Utah, someone told me to meet them at the West entrance of a building. i was floored. i though that they must think highly of my intellect to assume i knew which way was west. when i got there, i just asked someone where the west entrance was. heheh..
Hehehe. I love the layout of streets in Salt Lake. North/South/East/West means less to me once I get into the black hole known as Utah Valley (From Lehi to Orem, specifically). Every time you change to a new city the numbers change too, it’s easy to get turned around and lost if you don’t know your way around.
Interesting observation, though. Heh, I remember how sucky it was trying to find houses in Korea– good thing we had maps.
