I’ve noticed somewhat of a trend while driving. Tell me if it’s all in my head or if there is some substance to my observations:
I get this impression that a lot of women have a need to constantly be talking to people. The other day I was stopped at a stop light and I kid you not, like 3 cars in a row of women drivers turned left passing in front of me and they were ALL on their cell phones, like they were glued to them. Are they needy? Insecure? Can’t handle just driving with some music? Or are they trying to escape the kids in the back seat? (this one I could understand… maybe they don’t get enough adult conversation otherwise, but not all of the offending women necessarily seem old enough to have kids).
What gives? I mean I see guys on their phones driving too from time to time, but I don’t get this feeling that it’s for the same reasons. I’d rather not be on the phone while driving– I keep conversations as short as I can if someone calls or I for some reason need to make a call. But these women… I just get the impression they just have a need to be talking.
Anyways, there’s your random, pointless, non-constructive rant for the week ๐

I do make most of my phone calls while driving, but not because I have a need to constantly be talking to people. It is more because anywhere I drive I have at least a half hour to kill, and it is the only time I can pay attention to a conversation. (While focusing on the road and all ๐ ) Between work, school, and errands, I can’t catch up with friends and siblings unless I am on the phone in the car.
If I hit stopped traffic I almost immediately reach for my phone, to kill the time.
I don’t know if it’s women specific, however. My sister can always tell when her husband is driving somewhere alone because he calls her. (He has even called me, when she was out of town, haha.) He is constantly on the phone while driving.
Out of curiosity, I watched who was on their phones while I was commuting to work today… and they were almost all MEN. So maybe it’s just a human thing – women feel the need to talk while driving, and men feel the need to conduct business while driving. I, however, try to refrain from talking on the phone while driving, because my foot somehow eases up on the gas pedal while I’m talking on the phone, hehehe. I become even more of a menace on the road when I’m talking on the phone than I already am… so might as well not make a bad thing worse, hehehe!
For the record, I spent the entire 30 minute drive to work this morning on the phone– all business. ๐
i hate to talk while driving, i frankly think it should be a ticketable offense. It’s caused way too many accidents. Morons can’t seem to focus on 2 things at once. so there’s my rant, and ya, i’ve noticed more offending women than man doing, but i’ve seen plenty of men too.
See?? Women just want to chatter to friends or gripe at their spouse while they’re driving, and men just want to conduct business while they’re driving. It is what it is. You know what else people should do while they’re driving? Hang up! ๐
i go ya one better mel, people shouldn’t even pick up or dial!
