Sidewalk Art

Downtown at the Gateway Saturday, after hitting Rio Grande for dinner (great chicken enchilada, yum) and before seeing Nacho Libre, we found there was a sidewalk chalk art exhibit and checked it out. Someone even had drawn a scene from Mary Poppins… So appropriate. I don’t care if some of these are just reproductions done larger in chalk— they were really pretty impressive. It made me think that I need to spend more time with creative pursuits of my own. I seem to spend my life working, studying, playing, etc… But I don’t take the time nearly often enough to sit down and do something creative that I can appreciate later on. Take this blog, for example— it’s current look came over 2 years ago and I never fully fleshed it out, and even what is finished is half-baked. So if I really enjoy it, why don’t I have more motivation to do it on a regular basis? Maybe I just need to make up some goals and a schedule… Give myself some deadlines.

  1. Nice work on some of those chalk paintings. I should be more creative too. I’m just too lazy. 🙁

  2. so how was nacho libre? i heard it wasn’t as good as napoleon.

  3. That was way cool, Mike! 🙂 I loved the slide show!
I didn’t think Nacho was as good as Napoleon, but to its credit, there are parts that just make you laugh so hard, tears run down your face. Plus, it’s Jack Black – the man has serious comedic talent!

  4. Dang. That was a cool slideshow. I don’t think I saw some of those drawings.

  5. Joel- if only I had actually done the chalk drawings. As it is those were just quick snapshots of them… though some turned out alright 🙂

Heeble- no it’s no where near the quotability of Napoleon, but it is funny in it’s own right. Especially if you appreciate the hilarity of any sort of pro wrestling, hehehe… so yeah I wasn’t laughing my head off the entire time like the first time I saw Napoleon, there were times when I was laughing a lot harder than in Napoleon.

Mel / Mar- I kinda like the slideshow thing 🙂 Might have to do it more in the future… more entertaining than just pictures alone.
