It was pretty warm out driving home from work today. Probably in the high 80s, which is still nice but not quite as perfect as yesterday’s mid 70’s. It was still cool enough to leave the windows down and sunroof open while I drove in order to keep cool, rather than use the A/C.
As I contemplated the monotony of the treadmill, I decided instead that it was a perfect evening for swimming– so I wasted no time changing and heading over to the pool when I got home. I’d gone swimming a week and a half ago at the pool in my parent’s neighborhood and found it quite relaxing and peaceful. Swimming lazy laps on my back keeps me awake while allowing me gaze at the sky and ponder.
As luck would have it, the pool was completely empty tonight, which afforded some more of that relaxing and both mentally and physically refreshing swimming. No noise, no distractions, just the shimmer of blue green water and the sun sinking lower towards the horizon.
I wished I’d had my camera at the pool tonight. Not only because I was mesmerized by the golden light of the evening playing off the ripples of the water, but also because I decided that water could provide some interesting opportunities to capture a cinemagraph– something that’s on my “to-do list” but that I never seem to remember to do when I have time. (Another goal, to try to get me back into the swing of photography, is to start learning HDR photography. Not the super garish stuff, but the stuff that’s just dynamic enough to make you say “wow”.)
I think I’ve gone swimming more this summer already than I did last summer. Which is about 3 times so far– which means that this summer will for sure be more rejuvenating than last. See, my last couple swims represent what summer is about for me– rejuvenation. Relaxing. Clearing my head. Creating conditions to be inspired. This weather does it for me.
I stepped out a bit ago as I realized that I was missing a wonderful June sunset. It does make me wish that I lived on the third floor instead of the first floor cave condo that I’m in. Life is always good when the sky looks like this:
And I figured this post wouldn’t be complete without a tune. Something about this tune (and the album in general) hit summer on the head for me. The reverb, the warmth of the mellow sound…
