Back in the Day

This is one of the very first pictures I took with a dSLR. May 9, 2006, I had a shiny new Canon 5D that I picked up in anticipation of some traveling– first San Diego for a couple days, then on to Hawaii.

There’s just something classic about gorillas. Love how he’s just got his back completely turned to the spectators at the zoo, like “hmmph!”.

Hawaii and San Diego… those are the only pictures I took with the 5D, what a pity. I put it up for sale in July because I hadn’t taken it out of the bag after Hawaii and felt I couldn’t afford to have such a nice camera sitting there collecting dust.

I recently started looking at used 5D’s, and so I decided to dig out the pictures I took with my old 5D and Sigma 24-70mm. I was as big of newb as you can get, having only a semester of photo 101 under my belt as far as SLR experience goes. The pictures aren’t bad… and you can really bring a lot out with photoshop. Anyways, enjoy ๐Ÿ˜‰ Pity I didn’t take more pictures in Hawaii when it was sunny. I need to go solo next time so I can just spend my time photographing and not worry about slowing anyone down, because most the pictures I took in Hawaii that trip were with a tiny little point and shoot.

Ahhh, Hawaii…
