I forgot that I had these paper mache theater-type masks that I bought a few months ago for a photo idea. I remembered them and today and thought perhaps I’d use them for Halloween… so instead of people taking turns going to the door every time kids came, I donned the hooded robe with this mask and sat on the porch with the bucket of candy to serve the tricker-or-treaters.
A few were a little hesitant, some were more apprehensive to approach me than others. I sat there perfectly still facing directly forward, and quite a few kids questioned whether I was a real person or not. That was probably the most fun, watching kids of various ages converse as they walked across the sidewalk to get to the driveway to approach me, trying to decide if I was a real person or just some dummy that had been left out with the treats so that no one would have to bother with the door.
A couple mom’s even got such a kick that they either took a pic or had the kids pose with me and take a picture, haha. There was one group of girls that got worked up enough that they screamed when they got close enough that I moved and reached for the bucket, haha. Then there were a few kids that were too creeped out to even approach… they just skipped our house and went on to the next, haha.
One of the funniest moments was a bit later in the house, I had the robe and mask on and little Addie, now 17 months, stood there and just stared up at me, a bit apprehensive herself, or perhaps just fascinated with this strange personage. Then I took the hood and the mask off and squatted down to her level and smiled at her and she stretched her arms out and ran over to me to be picked up, hehe. So ironic– she’s never wanted me to pick her up like that before, but it was adorable, haha.
Ah, Halloween… the one day of the year that you’re given license to be creepy. ๐ Sometimes the simple solutions are some of the most effective, heh…

Oh my gosh, that little stunt of Addie’s – when she ran over to you to be picked up – was SO adorable! She really DOES have us all wrapped around her fingers!
