Fall Colors

I wrote a post the other day and didn’t post it, doh.

Kato and I did some driving around today because the weather was perfect (partly cloudy and about 80) and the fall colors will likely disappear soon. This one was from up just south of Milcreek Canyon– we were just kind of wandering through the neighborhoods there enjoying the scenery and happened upon a little parking lot with a trailhead… and just lots of color and scenery without even having to hike anywhere. Here’s a view of the Salt Lake valley from there:

More pictures to come. Spent an hour there without even trying. Gorgeous day!

  1. WOW Mikie! I love it! What lens, exposure/ shutterspeed? really amazing photo, keep it up! You would Love the class I took!

    1. 5D, 17-40mm f/4L @ 17mm, f/13, ISO 400 (coulda gone lower there), 1/250 shutter speed.

I shot it in RAW, I exposed for the foreground / trees and then using RAW I was able to pull the sky back so it wasn’t so blown out (amazing how much information those RAW files have!) And of course I punched the contrast and saturation a bit to make the photo pop.

I have a shot I took with the 50mm lens like you have that I haven’t posted (took it back in April)– but I love how sharp that 50mm is, I’ll have to show it to you sometime 🙂

(I had the 10-22mm Canon lens when I was using the 40D… such a fun lens! This is pretty similar in terms of field-of-view)
