This story has to be documented. A couple months ago, Meloo took a bunch of us to Lagoon (as was posted on the crazy pills blog). It was a good time, and when everyone else in our group left, Steve, Dan and I decided to go on a few more rides. The one we ended on was a trip down memory lane on the Musical Express.
If you don’t know what the Musical Express is, it’s a ride that goes around in circles while also kinda undulating up and down (while playing popular music, of course). The cars hold 2 or 3 people in them. I hadn’t been on it since I was a kid, I have memories of getting squashed in the outside position in the car. (Whoever is on the outside gets all squashed by the two inner passengers because of the centrifugal force of the ride spinning).
So, Steve, Dan and I are in a silly mood and cram all three of us in one car– me on the outside. First off, my pants catch on part of the car and rip about 12 inches down the side seam, so we’re already laughing. Next, they had some trouble getting the ride up to speed. A couple times it just stopped and they let some people get off if the wanted to. We figured if anyone was causing the ride problems, it was the three guys in our car– all over 6 feet all, all 250+ pounds– by no means average-sized. But no one ever said anything to us.
Finally the ride gets up to speed, and I start to wonder what the crap I was thinking. Mind you when we got in there, we were sardines, already packed in tight. Now Dan’s got several inches between him and inside wall of his side of the car, because both of them are just pancaking me because of the force of the ride.
I’m sitting there letting out these slightly stifled groans (I mean you try making noise when you’re being squashed by those two guys plus the force added by the ride– it just came off as humorous to them). Not just squashed but having bars and what not digging into my hip and leg. Steve and Dan are laughing their HEADS off. They are laughing so hard they’re crying, because of the groans of pain coming from their elder brother. They tell me their tears were going sideways across their face with the way the ride was whirling around. Hahaha… oh man. (I’m sure their descriptions of what was making them laugh so hard would be SO much better than my version here. Feel free to leave it in the comments section, guys).
Anyways, we were all cracking up by the time the ride stopped. As uncomfortable it was for me, it was way more funny than it was uncomfortable. We laughed for quite some time after getting off the ride— and our day at Lagoon was definitely complete.

How fun!! I haven’t been to Lagoon in years. Isn’t it awesome how you can laugh with your family like no one else? I’ve had several experiences laughing with my family that are extremely memorable … one where my dad actually had to pull over the car because he was laughing uncontrollably. Miss you ๐
Hahaha… Man, I’m imagining your dad laughing that hard. That’s so awesome. Thanks for stopping by, cuz! Miss you too– I can’t believe I missed the night you guys had for extended fam to visit in park city! I didn’t find out about it until too late… ;(
