Beauty in Duality

I dressed up a little yesterday… because the contrast amused me– it amused me to look nicer than usual on the outside on a day when I felt crappier than usual on the inside. (I totally forgot I had taken this picture, too, until I sat down to write this post).

Sometimes it’s refreshing to be human and have down days. While the negatives in life by themselves are not pleasant, it’s their contrast with the positives that allows the positives to be so wonderful.  Weakness and internal struggle humble me and allow me to appreciate growth, allow me to appreciate the sacrifices of others.

Isolation and introspection allow me to appreciate who I am, as well as the love others have for me– love that I certainly don’t deserve– which only fosters love in return.

Moments of darkness allow me to see the real beauty of the light. The light which always overcomes in the end. And so I am grateful even for the darkness for the perspective it gives me.

I ended my day yesterday by seeing The Dark Knight for the third time (I had had Batman Begins on at the office earlier in the day.) Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are easily two of my favorite movies of all time.
