stick em up

aug6_08a.jpgI awoke this morning with the feeling like I needed a personal side arm and a concealed weapons permit.

Funny what dreams do to you, huh? It was another one of those dreams where your mobility is impaired, like your body won’t obey your mind’s command to move or act. In my dream I did have a side arm of some type, and had to use it to defend myself against an armed enemy. As usual, the dream doesn’t really make sense, but the feeling of being paralyzed by fear was so real. Both the fear of being destroyed, and the fear of pulling that trigger. Also, when your having trouble controlling your body, your aim is really weak-sauce, hehe.

Other odd details: a verbal confrontation with the enemy after they had been disarmed. I was yelling at them telling them that I wanted the same thing they did, but that going about using a gun to force it was wrong– I wished they could see that the consequences would be terrible. (Maybe a manifestation of some debates about socialism I’ve had recently?)

The funny part of the dream is that I was with Mulder and Scully. I will chalk that one up to reading, right before going to bed last night, the status updates from friends on Facebook. I think it was Susannah who’s status said “wants to believe”– which I took as a reference from the X-Files, heh.

(incidentally, these kinds of self portraits are harder than they look. I thought remote live view would make it cake, but not quite. In live preview mode it wouldn’t allow me to shoot via remote control– it had to be done on camera or on the laptop. Not to mention I didn’t even have time to figure out how to manually focus it properly.  So, a mediocre photo will have to do 😉 The wide angle– 10mm– and a little Lightroom post processing is what really saves it from completely sucking, but that was essential to the concept in the first place. And no, it wasn’t a nerf gun that I had in my dream, hehehe.)

  1. That picture is AWESOME. 🙂

  2. I agree with Mel, that picture is awesome! I watched the entire first season of X-Files on DVD this week and it has inspired some interesting dreams (as well as status updates.) I punched someone in the face during one of my dreams. A totally weird feeling.

(Dude, you totally spelled my name wrong, but I’ll overlook it as I think I’ve only ever seen you write it Sus.)

haha, I know I spelled it wrong. I couldn’t figure out how at first… it just looked weird.

I also realized when I wrote that post what your status update was referring to when you mentioned being on the last disc of the season…

yeah. X-Files. It’s what weird dreams are made of.

  4. Wow, that is SUCH a cool picture! Crazy dream, cuz… Molder and Scully. You’re awesome…I love ya!
