Have you ever not been able to figure out what it is you were in the mood for? (In this case, what music you’re in the mood to listen to? Warning– music after the jump, in case you have headphones or speakers turned up.)
I love music, it’s like a friend that’s always there for me, regardless of what mood I’m in. I have a portable setup that’s very enjoyable at work, makes me want to listen to music that much more. (More detail in a later post…)
This afternoon at work I was craving some music but wasn’t sure what… I knew it was going to be something upbeat-ish. Soundtracks? Not right now… some type of rock or alternative? nah, not feelin’ that either. I wanted something kinda happy but not standard syrupy pop or eurodance. It was weird– I didn’t have a specific type of music in mind, I just had an impression of how the music would feel.
A half hour later a song pops into my head– “I am a Pirate, You are a Princess”, by PlayRadioPlay. That’s it! PlayRadioPlay just hits a certain spot for me. It’s upbeat but not too upbeat, it’s got some electronic sound to it but it’s not too pop, it’s got just enough indie flavor for me. It’s just so me… so I figured I’d share.
I like this kid– he’s only 17 (maybe 18 by now), but here’s what his bio used to say on MySpace. The part I remembered and was googling for was the part about how his music seems to make people happy:
Hello my name is Dan Hunter (say it with a Texas accent).
I’m 17 years old.
PlayRadioPlay is my solo project.
Although I am signed, I still do it for fun, not for money, not for girls, simply because I enjoy making music (My music seems to make people happy, and I enjoy making people happy.)
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
I dont drink, smoke, do drugs, or have sex, and I am proud to say I am still a virgin.
I get along with all types of people.
I am a pacifist. I believe there are better ways to solve things than violence.
I truely believe every person is beautiful.
I love everyone.
I don’t remember a ton about his background, but he’s been through plenty of crap in his (relatively short) life. To see someone with those values and creating music because they like making people happy? Awesome.
