Rio

So yeah. I’ve reached my all-time heaviest and the pants are getting tight, so
I’ve resolved that not only do I need to keep up at the gym, but I need
to reform my diet. I like to jump-start it by doing South Beach diet
for a few weeks, the first two weeks of which can be a little rough. In
short, it’s low fat, no startch and no sugar for 2 weeks.

Cafe Rio may be my savior for the next couple weeks.

I just get a grilled steak or grilled chicken salad, have them put no rice in it, get black beans (pinto beans are a no-no in phase 1), have them hold the chips, double up the pico salsa, and then I just don’t eat the tortilla. To be honest, the tortilla always gets soaked by the black beans and I don’t love the rice, so I’m really not eating much different than I usually do at Rio. Seriously– doubling the salsa negates the need for any dressing at all. It’s awesome (and delicious…)

In a couple weeks things will get a little easier when I can add some starches back in and again eat fruit.

(In case you were wondering, I’m at 265 lbs and my body fat, according to the scale this morning which, who knows how accurate it is, is at 33.6%. I’ve got nothing but progress to make ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

I can’t tell if I’m having an off day or if my body is already screaming for sugar / starch, hahaha. I thought last time it took a few days to where I started feeling a tad sluggish. I got no shortage of sugar over the weekend…

In any case, I feel like time flies by these days, so phase 1 should be but a passing moment… but we’ll see. I’m loaded up with pistachios, sugar free fudgecicles, pickles, sauer kraut, tomatoes, low-fat cottage cheese, string cheese, etc…

Seriously, though, good luck, man. Let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you out.

“And Leon is getting larrrrger!” Haha, nice one Jeffe. The diet is all about kicking my own butt into gear. It’s all good ๐Ÿ˜‰ Actually enjoyed today for the most part, I’m wondering why do we eat so much in the way of starches…

AHHH. Extra pico. THAT’S why I never get dressing either – extra pico makes up for it! My Rio salads usually consist of meat (of the fatty variety, like pork or beef), beans (usually pinto), lettuce, a scoop of guac, and extra pico. MMMM, Cafe Rio…

  7. Ohhhh… cafe rio salad… double the pico sounds like a good plan for calorie saving, but the tomatillo dressing was the best! Anyway, good luck with the diet – it sounds tough.

Ty I think it was you who introduced me to Rio ๐Ÿ˜‰ I recently became addicted to their burritos… guess i won’t be eating one of those for a couple weeks ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. At least you weren’t like Jesse – moaning on the couch like you’re dying after half a day on this diet. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I did like that salad we made a few times, though – the meat, lettuce, salsa, cheese, etc. You can pop over after work some day in the next week or two and we can make that for dinner…I can use any diversion I can get these days. ๐Ÿ™‚
