Are you not entertained?

My senior seminar instructor frequently references “The Prestige” in class– or rather, the way a magician shows you he has nothing physically up his sleeves, and the way the audience doesn’t really want to know the secret behind the “magic” or illusions. The audience just wants to be fooled, to be entertained.

Are you not entertained? Did you watch the season premiere of Lost? Yes, I did. And I’m afraid this magician’s illusion will not be ending anytime soon. Because we are here to be entertained, to be fooled. And despite my ranting about the carrot of Lost that’s dangled in front of us, I still watch it… hehe.

  1. oooo, I forgot all about it, thanks for the reminder! I’m one of those who complain about having no questions answered, but I still love to watch the show.

  2. I think more than anything I’m just reacting against the hype and popularity. I’m still addicted. The show isn’t quite as good as it was in its first season, in my opinion… but crap. I’m just not as invested now. A coworker just came by and told me all this crap that I didn’t notice during the episode (because you basically have to pause it and go frame by frame to catch it)… that’s what gets you sucked in. The little clues that you have to be oh so careful to catch, hehe.

  3. oh man, I sooo hear ya. I have seen every episode and I am always intrigued and left trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. At the same time, I know we are being duped. It’s all a bunch of nonsense with intense music. Gotta love it!
