Check this action out.

Ahh, I love my 80’s childhood. A few months ago I got talking to Dan about the pan pipe music in the Karate Kid II forum, and started searching for the score online. Turns out it was never released on CD, though I think you could find some music from the first movie online. Disappointing, to say the least.

Then a few weeks back I stumbled across this on one of the film score sites I visit from time to time– Varese Sarabande released a limited collector’s edition of all 4 soundtracks! (only 2500 made). You know, it’s been so long since I watched those movies that I think I was too young to truly appreciate how awesome the music from those movies is. I don’t even think I’ve seen Karate Kid 3 and 4, but even the music from the first two would be worth it.

Ahh, I remember the days when for Halloween I’d wear my karate pajamas and we’d make a bandana to be like Daniel-san. This music is awesome– it’s great film music and has the bonus of all this nostalgia!

(I really do need to start up a blog just for film music. Gah.)

  1. I rememer going to see Karate Kid II at the Scera theater with the Aldriches when I was here in Utah on a summer holiday. Good times!!! I was so in love with Ralph Machio. And when Matt was in High School (when I was a little school girl and part of the reason why I fell head over heels for him) matt LOOKED a little like Ralph Machio. Sigh ๐Ÿ˜‰ My Dad was really good friends with Danny Kamekona (the guy who played Sato). Oh! and they filmes II in HAWAII!! I love the score from KK also. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Love ya couz!!

  2. Haha…man I never got why girls dug Ralph Machio. I don’t think I ever saw him after Karate Kid! To each his/her own, eh? Dang… now I need to watch Karate Kid II again to see Hawaii.

  3. Oh Carm! Don’t you know that he was just DREAMY!!! So he’s not so dreamy in “My Cousin Vinny,” oh well. As for Hawaii…. ah! The reason why I love to watch Dog the Bounty Hunter is to see the sceanery in Hawaii. Yeah! I get to go in August!!!

“It’s a cruel, cruel Summer…now you’re gone. You’re not the only one…it’s a cruel…” I know you’re talking about the instrumentals, but I was (am?) in love with this Bananorama song! I don’t know if I can say I was in love with Ralph Machio. But I did always dream of having a guy fight for me like Daniel-son fought for Ali. Soooo romantic.

Thanks for coming over to watch it with me, Cass!!

ANd Carm (other people call you that now too??), I have to tell you, you’re right about the frying pan. heheheh

  5. man, i loved those movies. guess i still love them. maybe because i haven’t seen them in a while. (speaking of parts I and II that is. I never knew there were parts III and IV. Karate Kid marathon, anyone?)

  6. Haha. Karate Kid marathon… that would be awesome.

  7. yes, that would be awesome. When I was in the MTC they showed a clip from the Karate Kid, and I was all pumped to watch it when I got home. I remember seeing Karate Kid III, but the fourth one didn’t have Ralph Maccio (or however you spell it) in it. It was about some girl karate person. Lame-o. Mr. Miyagi taught her how to do Karate or something. I purposefully avoided that one. The third one isn’t very good either. All I remember about it is that it has something to do with bonsai trees. Daniel-san learns how to trim them, and then something happens, and they have to rappel down into a gorge to get a new one, because the other one (which was really rare) got killed or something. Not that good of a movie. But, I liked the first two. The drum thing was a little silly in the second one. But, otherwise, it was pretty cool.

  8. hehe. Travis, those flicks are great if for no other reason than that they’re classic 80s flicks. I’d probably laugh if the same movie were released today. Love the 80s…

  9. Ah, the fourth one was “The next karate kid” starring Hilary Swank way back when, good times ๐Ÿ™‚
