I remember seeing commercials for these cereals when I was little. It was always such an interesting cereal, maybe because Mom never bought it for us.
Several years later I find myself in a grocery store at Halloween time looking for cereal to take to work. There is a sale on Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo Berry. Being in Halloween mode, and recalling that I had always wanted to try these cereals but had never been given the opportunity, I was quickly sucked in and bought these two, impulsively (I never did think Boo Berry sounded that good).
I must admit they are not as good as they look ๐ But they are definitely festive and fun to have. Actually, Franken Berry reminds me of a cereal I ate in Korea, Starberries I think they were called. Except Franken Berry has marshmallows– which ups the sugar content significantly.
Anyways, the cool factor on these cereals was so high that I had to take a pic and post it. :p Time to eat some Franken Berry.
(By the way, I just noticed that Heeble updated his site after coming a week and a half shy of going two months without an update. Woo! He may take a while between posts sometimes but it’s always worth it. Unlike my half-aced posts about food, haha. Check it out! )

oh man, i always loved boo berry the most. i guess i’m just a blueberry man. but i haven’t seen any of them except count chocula in a store since i was a kid
Perhaps I should try it. I do think Count Chocula is superior to Franken Berry, having just eaten both of them this morning.
holy glory, cereals like such will turn you into a diabetic for sure.
Sloan I think that cereal in Korea is called Starberry… if it’s like the pink and purple or blue depending on how long the box had sat in the kagae cereal. I lived on it in my greenie area… dry I might add because I still couldn’t stomach korean milk ๐
For one of my friends birthday I bought him a lot of sugar cereals that he hadn’t eaten in years. I just remembered a conversation we had had years prior about how much he loved those cereals but hadn’t eaten them since he was a child. I thought he might think I was dork and he might have but four boxes of cereal were gone within the week. Good stuff, even if I just stick to the Cranberry kind put out by Post (yum!)
The strange thing is that a cup of Raisin Bran has more calories than 1 cup of Count Chocula. ๐ฎ Must be that a cup of it is lighter? Hehe…
Joel, Franken Berry reminds me very much of Starberry– take out the marshmallows and you have about the same thing– the cereal itself isnt terribly sweet. And you don’t even have to drink that Korean milk (I thought it was strange at first but I loved how creamy it was, hehe.)
Mike, i don’t know what you’re smoking, but i swear mom has bought those cereals for us in the past!!! =)
She might have bought them for you… it’s amazing the stuff my mom will buy for my little sister that she would never buy when I was that age… younger siblings owe us a great debt of gratitude for suffering through the “wear them down” phase of parental relations.
Well Kato– yeah maybe in recent years when I’ve not been around, but not when I was little saw them on TV (weekday cartoons or saturday morning cartoons probably had a lot to do with that).
Joel has a point– for the most part things only get better for the younger siblings than they were for their older siblings at the same age.
See, now I can’t remember whether we actually had those cereals in our childhood, or if I just clearly remember them because I wanted to try them so badly. I mean, I remember eating Cookie Crisp and Lucky Charms – but actually, now that I ramble to myself, I think I bought Count Chocula last year, and it came with a free scary music cd.
But for cereals that cater to the sweet tooth, you can’t beat French chocolate muesli. Oh…my…
