LP3: Mission Accomplished

The camp-out / line party was successful– we had a blast and succeeded in getting tickets.

Day 2 (Wednesday) was as fun as Tuesday and I think we saw more Sloanies and Sloanie friends this day than the day before. Stevo held down the fort with me Tuesday night and then manned our spot while I was at work…

Joel showed up around 2, Shawn also showed up some time around then. I got off work around 3 and came over to join them. Needless to say Joel had everybody entertained for a good part of his stay. Somehow Shawn became convinced that it was cool to earn cronie points and was doing some pretty silly things (mainly moving his car a few spots closer when a spot would open, etc.)

Mar showed up a bit later one as did Melissa. Even Jesse showed up for a few minutes. Pretty soon Melissa, Mar and Jesse took off, and a bit later Melissa and Kato showed up again (Melissa had gone to get some more camping chairs). At one point Melissa, without being egged on by us, rushed out into the parking lot to assist Shawn in his cronie endeavors by standing in a parking spot so no one could park there until Shawn got there, hehehe…

Jeff showed up sometime after 5 as well (work was dead so he came down early) and joined the party.

One of the other cronies at the line party was this guy (I can’t remember his name) that came around asking people’s names and then saying them backwards. He could even say sentences with all the words backwards, though not as quick at reversing the word order of a sentece with backwards words. He enlightened us that Jeff’s backwards name was Llessur Ffej, which stuck, and Jeff was referred to as Lessur Ffej the rest of the night, hehe.

Eventually everyone bailed, probably around 10 or so– Kato, Shawn, Steve, and Melissa took off as they had to get up early in the morning for work and school. Shortly after, Dan and Mel showed up and the 4 of us chilled for a while, then Mel bailed as she had to get up early too.

Jeff got hooked up while we were sitting there chatting: Laura from Star 102.7 came by and offered Lessur Ffej a free LoveSac sweatshirt. I guess he looked a bit cold or something (or maybe it’s just that charm that Jeff has that seems to work on women that are older than him, hehe). Of all the people who hung out with me in the Line Party, he’s the only one that really got hooked up with free stuff like that. I don’t know if Laura is just a fan of LoveSac or if LoveSac was sponsering her at the Line Party or what the deal was, but she had a bunch of LoveSac stuff, including a couple 6′ LoveSacs that were brought over and put in hers and other tents of people she knew. Anyhow, welcome to team LoveSac, Jeff.

Dan, Jeff and I retreated to our tent at midnight to watch Fellowship of the Ring on my laptop– of course I immediately crashed while Jeff managed to stay awake for the whole thing (Dan watched most of it but I woke up one time to find him passed out, hehe).

I woke up at 6 when Fisher woke Laura up by calling her– I guess I was cold and excited to get tickets. By 7:30 we were all up and shortly thereafter had our tent packed up and were ready for the final stretch.

Some of the most hardcore fans (ie people who made it to the line before us on Wednesday) had taken charge the past couple days and had been keeping a list of who had gotten in line first, how many spots they had, etc. This was A) So those who waited and camped the longest would not be screwed by people trying to cut line last minute and B) to kind of let people know what their chances were of getting a ticket. I appreciated this– they eventually printed out numbers for everyone as a sort of proof of their number. With there being only roughly 500 tickets available, that meant that if everyone was buying 6 (which the majority were), only the first 95 or 96 people would actually have a fair shot at tickets. I’m glad I set up camp Tuesday afternoon because we were # 41, 42, and 43. The managed to line everybody up in numerical order (some of the early campers– not the theater management) and man– our numbers were halfway to 96 and we were not halfway through the line, we were closer to the front. I’m sure most the people who showed up late on Wednesday to camp out were turned away ticket-less.

Anyways, after a couple checkpoints for our numbers (to verify our place in line), we were buying tickets and out the door– just before 9, even. At that point Dan, Jeff, and I, satisfied and relieved to have tickets, headed our separate ways. There was talk between Dan and Jeff Wednesday night of wanting to camp out in December for a good spot in line. I think Shawn may even have interest– I’ll see when it gets closer how I feel about freezing my butt off for good seats, hehe.

Anyways, the whole thing was a blast. It’s the most fun I’ve had doing nothing in a long time 🙂 All we did was sit around, chill, talk, and just enjoy the excitement and the atmosphere at the Line Party– thanks everyone who came out to support and to help keep the spot in line. December 16th will be a blast!

Slackers. TheOneRing.net was represented– they were actually our neighbors to the north, they were the next people to set up camp a few hours after we had set up camp. Looks like they used the sign for last year’s party– doh. C’mon, get with the program!

There’s Shawn, cheesing it up after his latest attempt at earning cronie points.

I can just say that although Dan was one of the most excited to be there (I mean heck he wants to camp for seats in December), and one of the bigger fans of the movies, he is nonetheless not a fan of having his picture taken! hehe…

And there’s Lessure Ffej, obviously deleriously happy to have a new sweatshirt and become a part of Team LoveSac, hehe.

Also, check it out: Maybe it was because of the scarcity of tickets and the theater was not selling online or by phone, or perhaps there really are some pretty hardcore fans in Utah. Anyhow, Sandy’s line party appeared on TheOneRing.net today. Woo! Someone from TORn took our picture on Wednesday night– if it does get posted it may be posted at the SLC chapter of TORn’s page: http://www.ringfaq.com/slcline/

  4. Hey guys– I was in the theonering.net group and took those pictures on the ringfaq.com website. I’m trying to track down this kid named Thomas, who was friends with the guy who said people’s names backwards… if anybody knows any of the people from that group (the ones in the pavillion behind the card table in the 3rd pic from the bottom on this page) I would be massively grateful if you’d e-mail aaron@ringfaq.com and let me know!
